We at MSL Projects & Design Inc. want to ensure that you receive the very best quality work and customer service for your upcoming project. Below is a checklist to help you choose your contractor.

  • Have a face-to-face interview with the contractor to ensure all of your questions are answered to your satisfaction. Communication and personality are key – you should feel comfortable with your contractor.

  • Ask for references from previous clients and view 2 or 3 projects that they have finished within the last year. You can also visit the site of a current project and do your own online research on the contractors you are considering.

  • Check the contractor’s credentials and qualifications (licensing, insurance, membership certifications, etc.)

  • Quotes you receive should thoroughly explain what the project entails and the full scope of work that is to be completed. Ensure you are comparing the same details (quality of materials, timeline, etc.) between all quotes – this can sometimes explain differences in costs between each estimate.

  • Confirm that there will be a contract signed by both parties that outline the details from the quote, and also clearly states why extra charges could be incurred. Do not sign any contract until you are completely satisfied with what is stated in the contract and scope of work to be done.

  • Be sure that the contractor provides warranty. What is covered, the length of the warranty period, and any limitations should all be clearly stated.

  • Don’t let price alone be your guide – lowball quotes could forecast lower quality materials or workmanship, cut corners, or an overall unpleasant experience.
